From Myth to History

Tuesday, September 8, 2026

Lecture presented by Alexis Drahos

A true museum jewel nestled in the heart of Paris’s prestigious 8th arrondissement, the Musée Jacquemart-André houses many treasures that remain largely unknown to the general public. Through the combined lenses of mythology, the Bible, and history, this lecture invites participants to explore its exceptional collections.
Following a primarily chronological journey, the presentation will revisit figures as diverse as King David, Hippolyta, and, closer to our own time, Henry III of France and his remarkable journey to Venice, as well as Cardinal Richelieu.
Key periods of Western history will be brought to life, from the age of the martyrs to the dawn of the 19th century, through the splendours of the Italian Renaissance. The lecture will reveal the rich narratives that lie behind each painting, sculpture, and work of art, uncovering the stories that continue to inhabit them today.
